The Cost of Nonhealing Wounds
Malnutrition and the associated loss of lean body mass can slow wound healing.9 Chronic nonhealing wounds, like pressure ulcers, create serious health issues, such as: constant pain for up to 80% of patients10; infectious complications11; and mortality, osteomyelitis, and sepsis.12 Additionally, poor nutrition contributes to the development of 61% of pressure ulcers.13 Nutrition intervention with oral supplements like Juven supports the healing of chronic nonhealing wounds and pressure ulcers,13,§ as well as the following wound types:
*In healthy elderly adults.
† P<0.03. Study of 35 healthy elderly subjects with a mean age of 75.4 years, implanted with a TFE tube in the deltoid region. Hydroxyproline was measured at 7 and 14 days.
‡ Per 2014 National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel Guidelines.
§ Has arginine, protein, glutamine, antioxidants (vitamins C & E), vitamin B12, and zinc for wound healing.
